((Pray as you see me praying)).

Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee said:

"He should pray the 'Asr prayer only, because the Maghrib (prayer) has already been prayed in its (appointed) time, and likewise he..."

Prolonging or Shortening the Du’aa During Ramadaan

During Ramadaan some of the Imaams prolong the Du’aa while others shorten it, what is the correct way?

The correct way is to neither exceed nor be deficient [in the Du’aa]. Prolonging the Du’aa in a manner that is difficult upon the people is prohibited for indeed the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلّم ) became upset when news reached him that Mu’adh ibn Jabal prolonged the Salaat while leading his people, he was never that upset in a sermon before at all. He said to Mu’aadh ibn Jabal:

“Are you a Fataan (one who causes Fitnah) O Mu’aadh.”

One should suffice himself with the words [in the Du'aa] that have been [authenticaly] transmitted or may increase or decrease in that a little. There is no doubt that prolonging the Du’aa is difficult upon the people and tires them, especially the weak from amongst them. There are also those who have jobs and do not want to leave before the Imaam does and it is difficult for them to stay with the Imaam [until he finishes].

So my advice to my brothers from amongst the Imaams is to be moderate, it is also befitting not perform the Du’aa sometimes so that people do not think that the Qunoot is compulsory while praying the Witr.

بعض أئمة المساجد في رمضان يطيلون في الدعاء، وبعضهم يقصر، فما هو الصحيح؟

الصحيح ألا يكون غلواً ولا تقصيراً، فالإطالة التي تشق على الناس منهي عنها، فإن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلّم لمَّا بَلَغَه أن معاذ بن جبل أطال الصلاة في قومه غضب صلى الله عليه وسلّم غضباً لم يغضب في موعظة مثله قط، وقال لمعاذ بن جبل: «أفتَّان أنت يا معاذ» فالذي ينبغي أن يقتصر على الكلمات الواردة، أو يزيد قليلاً لا يشق. ولا شك في أن الإطالة شاقة على الناس، وترهقهم ولاسيما الضعفاء منهم، ومن الناس من يكون وراءه أعمال ولا يحب أن ينصرف قبل الإمام ويشق عليه أن يبقى مع الإمام، فنصيحتي لإخواني الأئمة أن يكونوا بين بين، كذلك ينبغي أن يترك الدعاء أحياناً حتى لا يظن العامة أن القنوت واجب في الوت
