Imaam ash-Shaatibee (rahima-hullaah) mentions:
((Linguistically bid'ah (innovation) means 'a newly invented matter'.
The Sharee'ah definition of bid'ah is: "A newly invented way [beliefs or action] in the religion, in imitation of the Sharee'ah (prescribed Law), by which nearness to Allaah is sought, [but] not being supported by any authentic proof - neither in its foundations, nor in the manner in which it is performed)).

Shaykh Khaalid ar-Raddaadee said:
"I [would like to] bring attention to the point that I have advised the owners of this site – Salafi Talk – may Allaah guide them, that they stay away from spreading `Qeel wa Qaal` (it was said and he said) on this site of theirs, and that they remove a lot of the statements and opinions that contain a lot of Ta`addee (excessiveness) and ignorance. In these statements as well, is a lot of injustice, making incorrect judgments/rulings as well as hastily spreading narrations."

Reference: The Correct Response Concerning the Rulings of Night Prayers and Taraweeh |
Which is better, reading the Quraan or listening to a reciter on a tape?
It is better for an individual to do what is more beneficial to his heart and has a greater influence over it, whether it is reading or listening. The point of reading the Book of Allaah is to contemplate over it, understand it's meanings and act on what it teaches, as Allaah the Exalted said:
{A Book which We have sent down to you, full of blessings, that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may remember.}
Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, also said:
{Indeed, this Quraan guides to what is most just and right, and gives glad tidings to the believers}
Allaah, the Glorified said:
{Say: "It is for those who believe, a guide and a healing.}
Note:
Even though the reference may suggest that this response concerns the night prayer, it is specific to reading or listening to the Quraan outside of prayer, as both ibn ‘Uthaymeen and ibn Baaz are of the opinion that during Salaat the servant is to listen attentively and should not pick up a copy of the Quraan and follow with the Imaam.
