'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (radhi-yallaahu 'anhu) said:

((There is no excuse for anyone going astray thinking that he is upon guidance. Nor for abandoning guidance thinking it to be misguidance, since the affairs have been made clear, the proof established and the excuse cut off)).

Reported by Ibn Battah in "al-lbaantul-Kubraa" (no. 162) by way of al-Awzaa'ee that it reached him that 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (radhi-yallaahu 'anhu) said it. However, its chain is munqati' (disconnected)

Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee said:

"Even with that being the case, I noted that in all of the Muslim lands, regrettably, there are Muslims who nominate themselves to Parliament claiming that they will reduce evil. We can not forcefully prevent them from campaigning; all we can do is advise, clarify, and convey [the truth]. Hence, if a Muslim is going to nominate himself as opposed to a Christian or Communist, whether it be for major or minor elections (according to your terminology) then we vote for him."

Jum'ah Coinciding with the Day of 'Arafah

The Permanent Committee for Islaamic Research and Verdicts

Reference: Fataawa al Lajnah ad daa-imah: 57/ P. 161

Category: Pilgrimage

If the day of 'Arafah happens to coincide with the day of Jum'ah (Friday), is it permissible to fast it on its own? MayAllaah reward you well.

Fasting on the day of Jum'ah is prohibited if the intention behind it is to fast for the day of Jum'ah itself, meaning fasting just because it's Jum'ah. It is obligatory to fast a day before or after it.

As for the issue of Jum'ah coinciding with an obligatory fast, fasting the six days of Shawaal, fasting the 9th or 10th of the month of Muharam or fasting on the day of 'Arafah, then there is no harm in doing so as long as the person is not it a state of Ihram performing Hajj.
