The former president of the Islamic University of Madeenah, Shaykh ‘Abdul Muhsin ibn Hamad al ‘Abbaad, a lecturer in the Prophetic Masjid said that true seeking of knowledge begins after a student graduates, and it is upon the student of knowledge to consider himself as just starting in seeking knowledge upon graduation. Studying in the various Islaamic faculties does not make one a scholar, rather it provides the keys that would enable a student to further his studies and continue.

In his lecture at the Islamic University entitled “The Effect of the Sunnah in the Manners of the Caller”, the noble Shaykh warned against relaying Fataawa without verifying them, or adding to them or altering them. It is upon a person not to relay a Fatwa except after making sure he has heard it as he would like to transmit it.

About the obligations of the caller upon graduation towards present day studies, the noble Shaykh said that it is upon the student of knowledge to busy himself with what he specialized in, and not exert his praiseworthy efforts towards something other than the foundations that he set as goals for himself, he should not busy himself with other studies that others have sufficed him with regards.

About tackling new affairs or urgent situations, the noble Shaykh said that it is upon the caller to equip himself with knowledge and not be hurried to give a ruling upon things or respond to questions that he has no knowledge concerning. Rather he is to slow down and delay the response on issues that he has no knowledge of until he makes sure of its ruling.

In responding to a question about the cooperation a caller should have with those who agree with or contradict him in methodology, and calling the people with wisdom and fine preaching, Shaykh ‘Abbaad said that it is upon the caller to cooperate with those who agree with him in methodology and way. As for those who contradict him, it is upon him to call with wisdom and fine preaching and clarify the correct path. He affirmed that his example could be the sole cause in guiding people if the caller were to behave with noble manners and follow the Sunnah of the Prophet – صلى الله عليه وسلم – correctly.
