Shaykh ‘Abdul-Awwal narrates that he heard his father – Shaykh Hammaad ibn Muhammad al-Ansaaree (rahima-hullaah), say:

The Ahlul-Hadeeth have deduced that those ahaadeeth which mention the word ‘Rawaafidh'[1] [روافض] are fabricated, since they (the Shee’ah [شيعة]) were not referred to by this name until the ‘Abbaasid[2] period.

Footnote:
[1] Plural of ‘Raafidhah’ [رافضة] meaning ‘rejectors’. This is the term used by the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah to refer to the Shee’ah, who reject the khilaafah of Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhum), in favour of ‘Alee ibn Abi Taalib (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhu);
[2] From 750AD to 1258AD.
