Assalamu ‘alaykum

on Page 38 where there is a definition of tawheed al asmaa was-sifaat I don’t understand how the “describing the reality” can apply to the names of Allah. I can’t imagine someone seriously say how is Allah الرحمن or الرحيم + there are many lectures by people where the names are expanded upon so I don’t understand.

You may also want to edit the definition for that category of tawheed as the English grammar may not be right as it sounds to me like you’re saying the messenger ﷺ affirmed for himself the asmaa was-sifaat, ( I don’t believe that’s what you meant anyway).

Walaykum salaam,

“Describing the reality” refers to the attributes and descriptions of Allah, when a person says “the Hands of Allah are like….” or “Allah descends from the heavens like….”.

We can only describe the attributes of Allah based on authentic textual proofs. In the absence of this, we affirm the names and attributes of Allah as He affirmed for Himself, or the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) affirmed for Him, without describing their reality.

Wa billahi at-Tawfiq
