The obligation of demolishing the house of Shaykh Muhammad ibn AbdulWahhaab

All Praise is due to Allaah (alone), and Prayers and Salutations upon the Messenger of Allaah, and upon his Family and his Companions and whoever is guided by his guidance. To proceed…

“ar-Riyadh” newspaper dated on 21/10/1412AH published an article by: “S. D.” with the title “Renovation of the house of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdil-Wahhaab” and the General Administration for Antiques and Equities initiated the over-emphasised issue of the house of the reviver of the Salafi Da’wah, Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdil-Wahhaab (rahima-hullaah) in the area of Ghaylaan in the village of Yamlaa; It was such that the maintenance of the house was completed and renovated using the type of mud which resembled the original construction…and so on and so forth, until where he said: And a caretaker has been specifically appointed for the [renovated] house…and so on and so forth.

So the Permanent Committee for Islaamic Research and Verdicts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia studied the aforementioned article and was of the opinion that this act (of renovation) was not permissible, and that it was indeed a means to excessiveness (ghuloo) towards Shaykh Muhammad (rahima-hullaah) and the likes of him from the Scholars of truth and (it was a means of) seeking blessings with their remnants and [ultimately] Shirk with them. And we are of the opinion that it is obligatory to demolish it (the house) and in its place expand the road – closing all the doors to the evils of Shirk and excessiveness. And in order to cut-off the means to that, we have requested from the responsible department to undertake this immediately, and publicise the reality (of the situation) and warn against this detested action which has been published, and [may] the Prayers and Salutations be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his Family and his Companions.

فقد نشرت صحيفة الرياض في عددها الصادر في 21/10/1412هـ مقالاً بقلم: س.د تحت عنوان: (ترميم بيت الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب بحر يملاء) و ذكر أن الإدارة العامة للآثار و المتاحف أولت اهتماماً بالغاً بمنزل مجدد الدعوة السلفية الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب رحمه الله في حي غيلان بحر سملاء حيث تمت صيانته و أعيد ترميمه بمادة طينية تشبه مادة البناء الأصلية…إلى أن قال: و تم تعيين حارس خاص لهذا البيت …إلخ و قد اطلعت اللجنة الدائمة للبحوث العلمية و الإفتاء في المملكة العربية السعودية على المقال المذكور و رأت أن هذا العمل لا يجوز، و أنه وسيلة للغلو في الشيخ محمد رحمه الله و أشباهه من علماء الحق و التبرك بآثارهم و الشرك بهم، و رأت أن الواجب هدمه و جعل مكانه توسعة للطريق سداً لذرائع الشرك و الغلو، و حسماً لوسائل ذلك و طلبت من الجهة المختصة القيام بذلك فوراً، و لإعلان الحقيقة و التحذير من هذا العمل المنكر جرى تحريره، و صلى الله و سلم على نبينا محمد و آله و صحبه.
