Characteristics of the people of Taqwa – 2

In the name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.

Happiness and success in this life and the Hereafter is for the people of Taqwa. Allaah (the Exalted) mentioned the characteristics of the people of Taqwa in a number of Aayaat. In this second Aayah [1], He said,

{Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah , the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; and who establishes prayer and gives Zakaah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the people of Taqwa} [02:177]

From the above Aayaat, the characteristics of the people of Taqwa are:

  1.  Not attaching importance to only the physical apparent aspects of Worship
  2. Having firm Imaan in Allaah. They know who He is, His names, actions and characteristics.
  3. Believing in the Final day, hoping for its rewards and fearing its punishments
  4. Imaan in the Angels, Messengers and Books
  5. Care and concern for the poor and needy
  6. They give in charity to their relatives, orphans, poor and travellers
  7. They do not turn away those who come asking from them
  8. Emancipate people from slavery
  9. Establish the Prayers
  10. They donate their due Zakaah
  11. They are true to their word and promises
  12. The are patient in times of poverty and illness, accepting abd being pleased with the decree of their Lord
  13. They fight Jihaad against the enemies of Islaam
  14. Truthful in their statements and actions

O Allaah, guide us to your obedience and keep us protected from your disobedience.
